Antivirus and Malware

Antivirus is preventative software designed specifically to protect machines from malicious software, or malware. Malware is software used to disrupt computer operation, gather sensitive information, or gain access to private computer systems. Malware includes: computer viruses, ransomware, worms, trojan horses, rootkits, keyloggers, dialers, spyware, adware, and other programs. ITS provides software for faculty and staff to assist in the prevention and removal of malware and other viruses on University-owned devices. Students and other users of personal devices are responsible for ensuring their devices are protected by antivirus software. Windows and macOS devices contain built in antivirus software that offers sufficient protection. If you suspect your device is infected immediately disconnect it from the network and contact the Technology Support Center for assistance.
