Email aliases (also known as personal names) allow UConn faculty, staff, and students to create variations of their e-mail addresses and still have them delivered to their institutional email account. All aliases point to your assigned address, which is the one registered with the mail server account.
- Learn how to choose from your existing aliases by visiting our Knowledge Base Guide.
- Or you can create a new aliases two ways:
- Contact the Technology Service Center asking for an alias to update your address after a life event (marriage, divorce, etc.); these aliases are registered with the email system and will persist as long as you are associated with the University.
- With "plus email aliases" you can create variations of your existing email addresses by inserting a ‘+’ and then a desired descriptor (e.g., jonathan.husky+phd@uconn.edu)
This allows you to create a specific email address for a service without help from ITS and has the added benefit of informing you of where the sender found your address.
